2011 European Adventure--BYU Study Abroad--Vienna, Austria

We began our 2011 adventure as directors of the Vienna, Austria BYU study abroad program by meeting my sister, Marolyn, and her 3 daughters in Salt Lake City and travelling to Europe together.

We flew to Amsterdam, The Netherlands and there we rented two cars and the fun began! The first thing we did was to set up our walkie-talkies so we could keep track of each other. Then Marolyn and I hopped into one car and Roger and the girls into the other. We took off from the Schipol Airport and within 5 minutes, not only did we lose each other, but we lost walkie-talkie contact. Would we ever see each other again? We didn't know, but we instantlly remembered why we love Holland. So many canals and buildings with lovely facades.

Fortunately we were able to meet up again at the Anne Frank house. It was raining hard but that didn't stop the bikers. You'll never see so many bikes in one place in the world as in Holland

We drove across Holland to our favorite hotel in Osterbeek (where we were served a heavenly breakfast the next morning). We used to live in the neighboring town of Renkum in a beautiful part of Holland next to the Rijn River.

Angie's heart's desire was to visit a real castle. Well, one of the finest castles ever -- Doorwerth Castle -- is just down the road. We spent all of Sunday morning touring this medieval castle, complete with moat, drawbridge and torture chamber. It even had a restroom over the moat!

Doesn't Angie look great in armor?
