RESARCH TRIP TRAVELS -- TRIP # 1

 KEMPEN, GERMANY
        August 2015
Our main purpose for coming to Austria is for Roger to do research on German census records.  This means we will make three research trips to Germany.  On each trip we will visit city and state archives in many different towns and cities. We began by renting a car and driving across Germany.
The first town we visited was a pleasant surprise for me.  It's called Kempen and is near The Netherlands, one of my favorite countries.  It looks quite Dutch, don't you think?  We learned that many Germans are choosing to retire near this town because they love the small village ambience.  I'm with them on that!

Bikes are the main mode of transportation in this flat part of Germany, just as they are in Holland.
You have to watch out for them or you'll be run down or cause a terrible bike wreck.

Some charming street scenes...........
